Nightvision: As The Lights Go Down

Nightvision are a hard rocking four piece from the UK who unleash debut album As The Lights Go Down via Rocksector Records on April 6th. Packed full of solid riffs, soaring vocals and a huge bass and drums sound this is an album that comes with bags of enthusiasm, energy, passion and power. The bands roots can be traced back to 2003 when guitarist Neil Wallis hooked up with drummer Daryl Hocking who's brother Dean would join on bass a couple of years later. The quest for the right frontman eventually led them to Dave McKee who cuts a commanding presence throughout the 12 tracks. "After Dark" provides an instant and infectious opener with the confident swagger of a band who have been at this for years and this brash and bold all out assault continues with the immediately engaging "Sick and Tired" and "Something Better". McKee really shines on the more measured grooves of "Sentenced To The Gallows" which is also notable for a sparkling solo from Wallis and its clear that Nightvision have struck the right balance between no-nonsense hard rock and melody. The memorable "Love Ain't Cheap" and "Nightmare" maintain the momentum and for a debut album this is remarkably self-assured with not a hint of filler to be found.

Nightvision are one of a number of quality hard rock bands in the UK at the moment that, given the right opportunity, are surely destined for bigger and better things. The Answer are leading the way by virtue of grabbing their chance on the AC/DC tour and Nightvision can now be confidently added to the chasing pack alongside the likes of Stone Gods, Heavens Basement and Voodoo Johnson. I really can't recommend this album highly enough and As The Lights Go Down is one of the best debut albums I have heard by a British band for a long time.
