The self proclaimed "force to be dealt with, in a very aggressive metal scene", Tommy Bones, now out of the Houston, TX area, have a 5 song EP best described as generic hard rock.
Vocals that sound like a cross between a hoarse Pepper Keenan and an angry Billy Gibbons, which would normally seem to be very cool are far from that and honestly border on the annoyingly silly. This coupled with songs that do nothing but continually repeat themselves for the duration of their 4 minutes is like a cheese grater to the forehead. Influenences of Pantera, C.O.C and Ozzy era Sabbath are quite obvious and even their influenence can't save the poor songwriting that Tommy Bones possesses. In typical local/Garage band Metal form, song titles like, "Murderous Rage" and "My Hate" are flavors of the day. At best Tommy Bones sounds like a poor man's Danzig after a hangover.
This Tommy Bones EP is really hard to recommend. It is full of stereotypical Metal shortcomings and just bad songs. There is nothing heavy or aggressive about this EP, as they claim that there is. There are two guitar solos on the five tracks, if you want to call them that, and they are both basically wah-wah nonsense. There are no good musical performances to speak of and with NO good songs AND no good playing, what do you have? Exactly, nothing!!
Avoid this CD or just go to the garage of your local neighborhood band who are just starting to learn how to write hard rock & metal songs... it's the same thing.
