Swedish sleaze rockers Nasty Idols were formed back in 1987 and its testimony to the bands tenacity that they are still around so long after the LA influenced sleaze / glam scene has had its time in the spotlight. Like many of their contemporaries Nasty Idols called it a day in the mid-90's only to return a decade later to discover that many similar bands had emerged from Scandinavia that consequently has left them with a lot of catching up to do. Still liberally applying the hairspray and looking remarkably youthful more than twenty years after they first emerged, Boys Town marks their fifth full length album and first since the reformation.
This is a collection of songs that draws heavily from the usual suspects Hanoi Rocks, Motley Crue and LA Guns and is unfortunately lacking in any real identity of its own. Anthem styled rockers such as "Crashlanding" and "48 Hours" showcase some crunching power chords from Pete Espinoza but the lyrics are disappointingly dated and repetitive with a heavy reliance on the chorus to make any real impact. Smooth ballad "Nite Like This" offers up some diversity but this is but one song in twelve that really delivers. If you've an interest in this scene then check out a couple of songs on their MySpace before diving straight in.
