With an apocalyptical theme and a death metal approach, this band from Poland seemed on the verge of breaking out of their country's confines with the release of their third album Scream Of Death.
Following on the heals of the well received album Fallen Angel, Dragon seemed to take the best of what they had learned turned it up another notch with this very tantalizing work that combines the thrashiness of their previous work with a quirky ever changing tempo that gives this disc a real feeling of the doom that is the central story. This atmospheric work goes from the chaotic to the almost melodic to provide the sense of impending disaster.
The darkness of this disc is something that is very appealing to those of the Black Sabbath, Candlemass styles. Pure heavy evil is the tone and they set it early with the first song "Mutant". The snarling/growling vocals of Adrian "Fred" Frelich provide the voice to the end of the world as we know it. But, it is the guitar wizardry of Jarek "Gronoss" Gronowski that will carry you into the fiery tormented land. Somehow he manages to capture a sense of darkness that hits you right between the eyes like the first time that Tony Iommi assaulted your ears. Jarek does it with a completely different arsenal though. Using speed as well as the detuned signature heavy metal approach, his sound gives this disc a very unique feel throughout.
Metal Mind has brought to you another of the great obscure pieces in the metal history puzzle. The limited edition gold disc with five bonus live cuts is one that will take care of all those heavy metal needs. It might not be the first choice off the shelf, but it will make many trips to the CD player.
