Italian Trance/Techno/Metal band, Schizophrenia, have released their self produced CD entitled, Teach Me Love. This 11 track hyper fused mélange is a sonic bombastic assault on your senses. And while that might sound good it rather misses the mark. Schizophrenia mixes Metal sensibilities and attitude with annoying Trance/House keyboards and repetition. On top of that, the vocals are all in Italian! These guys sound like a poor man's Rammstein, without their songs or general coolness.
I do not exactly see this finding a home with the Trace or club kids nor the Metal scene. The music is all over the place, seemingly trying to blend too many different genres into one ball. One thing is for sure, the band has picked the correct name in Schizophrenia. It correctly describes what their music is all about. I believe that you will either hate this or really dig it. I can not see there being much of a middle ground with Teach Me Love. Maybe this is a European thing, but this CD does nothing for me, and there really is nothing to sink your teeth into here. It does make me think of the early days of New Wave when all of those keyboards started to take over the music scene...and what a terrible time that was.
Schizophrenia delivers an uncontrollable piece of art here with Teach Me Love. It is unexpected and very much uncompromising and for that I give them credit, but I simply just don't get it. Their ideas do seem to be quite creative but the end results are very incoherent and just come across as odd. Ultimately, this CD won't be for everyone and it certainly wasn't for me no matter how much I tried to understand it.
