Push-Pull are an alternative rock / noise / punk trio out of Bloomington, Indiana with Between Noise and The Indians marking their first full length release for Joyful Noise Recordings. They consist of the "three Mikes", namely Mike Bridavsky, Mike Notaro and Mike Hoggatt with the first two sharing bass, guitars and vocals and the latter on drums. Whilst having its roots in the punk bands of the late 70's they add in some modern experimentation with the end result being suitably offbeat and quirky. Musically they deliver some tight arrangements with throbbing bass work aided by some crisp production but the whiny vocals will limit the overall appeal and at times are simply nothing but annoying. Clearly they are a key element of the bands overall sound but they do detract from the chunky riffs and shifts in tempo on the likes of 'If the L Were A G', 'The Geek' and 'Fire' and if, like myself, you are unable to get past the vocal idiosyncrasies, this is probably not one for you.
