Here we have experimental/metal band Ana Kefr, their name being Arabic meaning "I am Infidel", formed in 2008, and June 2009 will see the release of their hauntingly powerful debut Volume 1, producing a brew of somewhat dark metal.
With a line-up comprised of Rhiis D. Lopez with his evil/aggressive lead vocals, keyboards and eastern percussion, impressive displays from Trenton Pichel on lead guitar and backing vocals, Bryce Loeffler on drums and Kyle Coughran with rhythm guitar and backing vocals, they form a potent outfit. Volume 1 is divided into chapters, through which they spread their message tackling various controversial subjects.
"Chapter I" builds and sets the mood before the storming "The Day that Guilt Turned White" screams forth unrestrained, "Takeover" commences with eastern percussion before the metal escalates. Track nine is an imposing metal number "Branded by Black Water", you would assume the black water they are referring to is oil, as they sing about bodies burning in the oil fields. Just a shame they didn't supply lyrics with this promo to obtain a better understanding of their content for this review, depending on the style, being able to read through the lyrics, is much easier then making them out when listening. Anyway, that aside, Volume 1 has some stirring metal; Ana Kefre's debut is indeed an intense experience, comprised of many varied arrangements, which has it's share of shining moments.
