Countervela: Date Created (EP)

Introductory three track EP from this Northern Irish four piece with a full length album scheduled for later in the year. Hypnotic riffing that twists and turns is a highlight of 'Least Expected Turns' that leads nicely into the pick of the three tracks 'All Here That's Safe And Sacred' which is a shimmering and dark number taken at a slow tempo that builds around a bone crunching rhythm and an intense vocal hook. In sharp contrast from this dark undercurrent is the stuttering 'The Sum Of' which has more of a post-hardcore feel as the main structure of the song and sounds as if it has come from across the Atlantic and is more reminiscent of the Deftones. Three tracks is not a great deal on which to form an opinion but based on what I have heard here this can be described as a well executed slice of modern metal with some progressive tendencies and overall a very promising effort from Countervela. Worthy of further investigation.
