Reverie: Introspection

Reverie is Daniel Muniz on guitars and vocals, along with Philip Hinge playing drums. This pair as they proclaim made this album on a budget of $125 and will tell you that the production is lets just say, lacking at times.

With that said Reverie and Daniel in particular has come up with something that is certainly unique and considering the circumstances, well worth taking a look at for anyone who has an interest in some serious guitar thrashing with intelligence and a keen sense of dynamics. The guitar at times is overwhelming but when they get it right, they do so with a style that makes me eager to hear more from these guys.

The first song that really caught my attention is "Hounded". While the guitar of Muniz is loud and creates a wall of sound, his vocals which are very melodic, off set the harsh six string brilliantly. With a few more dollars behind them, this could be one of the songs that will take them to the next level.

There also is the forceful 12 minute opus "Overfocus". This song flows through many different musical landscapes as it ebbs and flows from very beautiful melodic moments to hard thrashing and back again before it reaches its climax. Once again, if they were given the proper equipment you would have to wonder what this pair could conceive!

While these guys certainly have a metal backbone to their music, they are definitely not afraid to expand out into the other genres that coexist near their chosen field. Weaving a melodic spell that is enveloped with their hardcore metal overview, it is a sound that will make you want more. "Defiled" and the other 12 minute song "Back" are great examples of how they try to overpower you with a dynamic sound that lulls you in before it melts your face with its fierceness.

If there is any complaint, other than the production quality, it is that the songs on here seem to have the same sort of structure. Many of them seem to start out with a slow melodic feel, then swell to grandiose proportions before letting you down softly again. I would like to hear a little bit more diversification but that is a minor point.

There is little doubt that songwriter Daniel Muniz has the ability to take them far. It is just a matter of getting heard and having some real production behind them.
