Archgoat: The Light Devouring Darkness

I believe this blasphemous cover art tells pretty much what you can expect from The Light Devouring Darkness. Archgoat is now releasing their sophomore album. The Finnish act was formed back in 1989, and had a series of demo, MLP and a 7inch before actually completing a real debut in 2006, Whore of Bethlehem, on the Hammer of Hate label.

This trio is very specific about their intention to freely express their blasphemy via melodic Satanic Black Metal. The Light Devouring Darkness is a short, 30 minute recording made of compositions lasting normally between 2 to 3 minutes. Mostly fast and kicking, the songs often include those mid paced crunchiness that I'm so fond of. One different point about this band is the rumbling bass, which almost acts like the band's engine, so to speak. Catchy and juicy riffs are omnipresent on this disc. Another nice aspect is the vocals, for they are deeper that usual, with a certain robotic edge, resulting in a wicked vocal performance. The songs are pretty straight forward Black Metal in nature, and the sound production is slightly raw. Some keyboards, electronics, thunder and beastie voices are introducing the album perfectly. Some crunchiness and Doom atmospheres are to be heard in quite a few occasions in songs like: "Goat and the Moon", Worms Born of Martyrdom" and "Fornicated Messiah".

The Light Devouring Darkness is a cool and short incursion into the world of melodic Satanism. Hails!
