Errances Oniriques is the brand new album from my French cousin Loic, alias Belenos. In deed, Belenos is yet another solo project gracing the sonic scenery of Black Metal realm, where multi-instrumentalist has almost become the norm.
Belenos is being labeled as Celtic Black Metal. Its song structure is based on crushing Black Metal parts with varied tempos as well as melodic tremolo pickings / leads and , of course, harmonious arpeggios. The songwriting is skillful, while the musicianship of Loic is excellent. The Celtic elements involved on this album are: acoustic guitars, epic passages and clean chants. Clean arpeggios are frequently resorted to, in order to increase the melodic aspects. I always appreciate the moderate moments over the blast beats, but the latter are being frequently used to carry his Celtic message. Although easily handling all the instruments, Loic is really at its best with the guitar parts, probably his main instrument. He is especially interesting while playing the clean arpeggio lines.
There are no bad tracks on Errances Oniriques , not even anything to be considered as filler. Some compositions are especially good such as: "Le Domaine des Songes-Acte 2", "Errances Oniriques", "Morfondu" and "Le Dernier Pas".This album is a very safe buy for those into more sophisticated Black Metal.
