OHMphrey: OHMphrey

What do you get when you mix the Jazz/Fusion efforts of the bands Ohm and Umphrey's McGee? You get a pretty killer CD from a new band called, OHMphrey. This self titled CD (Magna Carta Records) featuring OHM's Chris Poland on guitar (ex-Megadeth) and bassist, Robertino Pagliari (aka Pag) along with Umphrey McGee's keyboard player Joel Cummins, guitarist Jake Cinninger and drummer Kris Myers, and these 5 musicians have delivered a very energetic 8 track record.

OHMphrey's debut is a spontaneous, eclectic and awe inspiring CD to say the least. Pushing the boundaries of each other's musical abilities, the outcome was a bit heavier and more diverse than either of the two separate artists alone. Big on improv and only taking two days to record this record, the members of OHMphrey decided to record this release in more of an old school live manner than to rely on the modern tools of the studio to cut and paste together a CD, and it shows! Take CD opener, "Someone Said You Were Dead" with its heavy riffing and the great mix of Fusion chops that come out over top of it, it's just so cool. You can just feel that these five guys enjoyed themselves in the studio and their individual performances prove it. Mo OHMphrey's debut CD is quite a good listen. Some of the riffs become a tad repetitive, but overall, it is very upbeat and allows each member to have their time to shine and the production is clean which this Fusion Jam Band takes full advantage of. OHMphrey is all about musicians being allowed to be musicians and being able to create some interesting music.
