Autumblaze sounds familiar, and I probably reviewed some of their work, most likely dating back to the beginning of this century. Now, the trio made of Eldon, Arisjel and Schwadorf (The Vision Bleak) is springing back with their latest effort, Perdition Diaries.
On this new album, Autumblaze is taking a somber, but melodic approach, reminiscent to Novembers Doom, only a rougher version. Some of the songs are more melodic than others, and on track #8, "Ways", it almost turns into a radio friendly tune with its clean vocals, piano and flute. Another harmonious composition, and one of the best tracks on this disc, is called "Who Are You?" This number has calm passages with acoustic guitars, raspy vs. clean voices in a duet, as well as contrasting heavy riffs and growls. Then, you get lots of chunky power riffs, and those are very enjoyable, moderate tempos and growls/ rasps. Many of the compositions are simple, melodic, a bit catchy on the edge, and filled with dark moods.
I can't say Perdition Diaries is a great album, but still, it remains pleasant to listen, even if it is average as a whole.
