I'll be damned! Another cool surprise found at the bottom of my promos stack. With Seven Chalices , you will get the exception to the rule saying: "Don't judge a book by its cover". I'm not quite sure where this duo is hailing from, since the words are either in English, Arabic, French or requiring a degree in archeological scripture.
What really matters here is that Teitanblood play a very blasphemous, twisted and mystical Black Metal. Their songs are basically simple and it is obvious those guys didn't do the conservatory. Nonetheless, this demonic duo has written a hellish hour of pure wickedness, much to my liking as a matter of fact. No fancy guitar work here, just repetitive distorted power chords, rumbling bass, blast beats and some crazy solos. Now, that's not all. Teitanblood usually moderate the pace to include a bit of crunchiness to their rugged sound. The vocals are amazingly wicked and beastie. On the other hand, lots of atmosphere is being exhumed from their compositions. The listener will witness: ambient keyboards, Gregorian chants, choirs, Muslim incantation, ritualistic/Satanic passages, samplings, bells and so on. This disc contains three instrumentals, of very esoteric nature. The titles are in Arabic and other archeological scriptures. My overall favorite tracks are opener "Whore Mass" and the epic insanity found on position #10, "The Abomination of Desolation".
Seven Chalices is an opus of twisted & wicked Black Metal.
