Italian composer and keyboardist Luca Olivieri offers listeners a sonic portrait of his instrumental work with La Quarta Dimensione ("The Fourth Dimension") — a dozen predominently electronic-music tracks, many written for theater and film. "Fantasmi" conjures carnivalesque images, while "Angelina" and "il Sogno di Napo" take listeners across Middle Eastern deserts. Although there's not a lot of variety on display here, Olivieri's bright and hopeful songs make for pleasant listening and are complemented by other equally fine Italian players. The roster includes Giovanna Vivaldi on cello, Diego Pangolino on percussion and Roberto Lazzarino on electric guitar. Of particular note is Mario Arcari's delicate soprano flute performance on "Un Mondo Segreto." And look out for Olivieri on the glockenspiel!
Olivieri also is a member of the folk-rock band Yo Yo Mundi.
