Originally formed in 2004 in Singapore Oshiego are a relatively young up and coming death / thrash metal outfit with two independent releases to their credit. Their latest disc Unending Carnage is an EP featuring two new songs recorded last year, plus four songs from their 2006 Now Suffer demo. Fuck me if I can't figure out why someone hasn't signed these guys up to record a full length album because the material on this abbreviated disc certainly demonstrates that these youngsters are more than up to the task.
The two new tracks "I.P.A.B" and "Suffer" kick things off in resplendently brutal fashion and quickly demonstrate that while these guys may live on the other side of the world; they've certainly been doing their homework. You can definitely hear the distinct influences of early Obituary and Cannibal Corpse as well as Behemoth seeping through these searing riffs and punishing bottom end. Vocalist Kadir employs an effective dual approach by alternating between the preferred death style, low guttural growls and slightly higher, more abrasive sounding screams. The grooves throughout are tight and the production on these two opening numbers are absolutely pristine. There's a bit of a drop off sonically with the remaining four tracks which were cut a few years back, especially with regards to the drums which lose a bit of their punch. However this doesn't detract from the fact that overall they've delivered six very strong tracks that will definitely appeal to old school death metal fans.
Unending Carnage is hopefully the final stepping stone towards a full length debut album in the near future, because even after just one listen it's apparent that Oshiego are ready to take that all important next step.
