Last Warning: Throughout Time

Last Warning's mix of Geoff Tate operatic vocals, Dream Theater's technical song structures and a staple symphonic sound should put Throughout Time, the bands third full length, on the map with its late eighties influenced prog metal.

Born in 1987, a year after Queensryche's Operation: Mindcrime was released, Last Warning stays true to the early sound of Queensryche, in terms of vocals, and the atmosphere created by the illustrious riffs, but there is so much more at play in this album. For example, on first play one would solely hear the Queensryche influences seeing as singer, Fabio Del Sal's voice in right up in your face but upon further listens the guitar playing seems to come to the fore front as it is exceptional; solos are technical and remind the listener of Dream Theater when Petrucci actually plays a solo for the fact that it brings the music to a new level and not just because he can. Of course the keyboards add that bit more texture to songs as they do more than supply background music as on the title track which showcases some fantastic key solos. In similar Dream Theater fashion the songs on Throughout Time don't move from one section to another instead they unfold for the listener to experience the musician's instruments. Standout tracks include "For a Lifetime", "Madness", and the 9 minute epic "In the Flood" with its use of Flamenco guitar and addition of a female vocalist; using both to develop an unbelievably emotional song that is their own "Silent Lucidity". All I can hope for is that with some positive feedback the band won't take another 8 years to make a new album.
