Fletcher, Nick: Cathedral of Dreams

I feel very humble and privileged to have the opportunity to review Nick Fletcher's Cathedral of Dreams. For the very first time in my eight years as a writer, I'm being proposed to review an album of classical music. Actually, I should say neo-classical to be more précised.

Nick Fletcher is a British classical guitar player who is presenting his first solo album. Eleven original compositions are included, plus four tracks called: "Iberian Fantasy for Guitar and Orchestra(in four movements)". Instantly, the listener is being projected in the relaxing and contemplative work of this British virtuoso. Nick Fletcher's grasp on this instrument is impressive, outstanding and simply amazing. As an intermediary level player, I was absolutely stunned and speechless with such crafty execution, precision and fluidity. He's highly worthy! Even if I personally enjoy the more metal sound of the acoustic guitar, I could only be fascinated by the cleanliness of this gentlemen playing. Needless to say that you won't find any bad compositions on this CD. Lots of great moments are just waiting the neo-classical fanatic. I found his solo work especially enjoyable. Some of the superb compositions include: "Dark Waters" (adventurous and dark), "Cornucopia" (intricate and great fluidity); the calmer "A Higher Path (Fantasia No.2)", as well as the Latino sounding "Visage". As for the "Iberian Fantasy for Guitars & Orchestra", well, at times the powerful orchestra is burying Nick's work a bit. A couple movements are making both parties stand out: "Mysterioso" and "Appasionata".

It is my humble pleasure to present British classical guitar virtuoso, Mr. Nick Fletcher!
