Syrach: A Dark Burial

Syrach are a Norwegian Doom metal band, formed in 1993. A Dark Burial's haunting cover art sums up their music quite well, dark and powerful metal that draws you in, coupled with vocalist Ripper Olsen's heated growls.

There are six tracks on A Dark Burial, but it's not an overly short CD, the longest at over eleven minutes being the powerful track four "A Mourners Kiss". "Curse The Souls" is a brooding track to commence Syrach's newest, with tasteful displays of musicianship. "The River's Rage" starts out as a slow menacing number which picks up momentum later on. A Dark Burial's title track is another enjoyable atmospheric doomster from Syrach with some gripping guitar. The deathly growls are dropped for the mainly instrumental track six "Ouroboros" with some spoken words, which is not a bad track to close A Dark Burial with.

Doom Metal is not for everyone, but bands like Syrach certainly try to make it more interesting and accessible.
