Ava Inferi: Blood of Bacchus

Right from the start I had a feeling this was going to be good but didn't realise how engaging and compelling it would be. This their third album sees MAYHEMS Rune Eriksen provide the death metal melancholic rhythms to fully complement the soft operatic harmonies of Carmen Simoes. Ava Inferi' s latest offering is produced to a very high standard, you need to listen to this on headphones to fully appreciate the massive production and sound intricacies on offer. 'Truce' lays down the foundations for the forthcoming journey your about to take. Transporting you to a gothic doom filled pool of tranquillity the melancholic sound ripples off the ears and then suddenly makes them bleed with a pounding wall of distortion while washing over your stiff corpse. Reminding me of Opeth and a softer less harsh Epica, Ava Inferi will have you nodding your head and reaching for the herb, that is if you want to be transported further, a great album that sends you to places you may not want to go but feel compelled to visit.
