Karma To Burn - Almost Heathen

Eschewing everything from meddlesome lyrics to trite song titles, West Virginia's Karma to Burn conjure a decalog of vaguely luciferion jams, each prescribed a titular number of seeming occult origin. I hesitate to read too much into this, as it's my impression these lads are merely taking the piss out of the idea of the concept album, but if I'm mistaken in my casual dismissal suffice to say that there is nothing in the grooves of these ten cuts that might betray a sinister intent. However, one toke on track five, "Thirty Nine", sends enough blazing reefer wafting out of one's speakers to convince you that the Devil's on your ass, too. Fire up "Nineteen" or even "Forty Three" (go 'head, pick a number) and be sure not to spare the green love. Karma to Burn remember a time when bands played to jam the fuck out, and verses and choruses just got in the way (especially when you were too stoned to remember the lyrics). And while the sands of desert rock may be slipping steadily through the hour glass, Almost Heathen suggests a timelessness that must inevitably see Karma to Burn continue to endure beyond the genre's eventual demise.
