Well I guess it was bound to happen at some point. I must admit that to date I've had a pretty good track record with the dozen or so Metal Mind re-issues that I've reviewed, however that is until I cracked the protective seal on this puppy and fed it into my CD player. I mean sure the cover of the hot looking nymph in chains on the cover looked promising enough, but even that wasn't enough to sufficiently prepare me for the absolutely abysmal music here.
Destroyers were a short lived (thank god) thrash metal outfit that released two full length albums in their native Poland before disbanding, presumably not long after their second album The Miseries Of Virtue began hitting the local cut out bins in 1991. What you get here are heaping quantities of straight ahead, sub-standard guitar riffage coupled with arguably one of the most annoying lead singers ever in the history of metal. The problem with lead belter Marek Loza is he can't seem to decide if he wants to be a bonafide metal screamer or a really bad Freddie Mercury impersonator, which is how he comes off most of the time. His high pitched, mock operatic screams and laughable moaning sounds on some of these tracks had me convinced the dude probably blew his load more than once in the studio while cutting these vocal tracks. I don't know if something got lost in the translation but after quickly perusing these clever little song titles I still have no idea what a "Peachlet" is. As for the lyrical content, well thank heavens I couldn't make them all out, but what I did manage to decipher for example on tracks like the aforementioned "Peachlet" and "Nymphomania" definitely wasn't pretty let me tell you. Seriously this disc is absolutely painful from beginning to end. Who knows, maybe (but I seriously doubt it) these songs fair better in their native tongue. Anyway if you do manage to get that far and are curious, the original versions are tacked on as bonus tracks so you can hear it for yourself.
The one star awarded for this review is only because someone in the art department had the brains to take the chick from the front cover and reproduce her a couple of more times inside the digipak layout, thus saving this from being a total bomb.
