You know when you throw in a CD and the heaviness just explodes in your face? Well strap yourself in for the new Merauder! Their latest CD, God Is I (Regain Records) is a right cross right to the jaw! Packed with powerful riffing and angry vocals, God Is I is downright heavy as hell!
In the vein of old Biohazard or of a God Forbid, the Metalcore that is Merauder just very simply got it right on this one. Headbanging grooves are all over this CD and I defy you to not find yourself buried deep within their moshy goodness. Merauder have pushed the traditional boundaries of what Hardcore has been and have hit their stride on God Is I. From the opening fist pounding notes of "Until", the gauntlet has been thrown down. This record is uber focused, intense and just a flat out a runaway train full of Metal drenched riffs and Doc Martin themed stomps. In other words, this record is fucking brutal!
Resurrected by singer/leader Jorge Rosado, Merauder is back and better than ever after they had been shelved since 2006 after the death of original guitarist, Javier "SOB" Carpio. This new and improved lineup just romps all over God Is I with seething tunes like; "Ratcatcher", "Hell Captive" and "Gangsta". There is a "no holds barred" mentality on this record and it comes through on each and every song. And the hooks in these songs just flat out slay. Check out the powerfully delivered Latin tongued vocals on "Ahora". Rosado belts this song out like it's his last and there in lies the overall theme of God Is I; no bull shit! This record kicks ass!
God Is I runs on all cylinders and there is NO weak link here. This is a powerful statement and is not for the faint of heart. It will suckerpunch you if you are not careful, as this is easily the best effort of Merauder's career. If you like your Metal angry with some mid paced stomping, seething vocals and 'killed by death' riffing, all while still having some killer hooks, then this is the CD for you. The breakdown sections will get any Hardcore fan's boots a moshing, while the heavy guitar riffing will get any Metal heads head a bopping. This is just about a perfect Metal record for 2009, and to be honest I didn't expect it from these guys. Just goes to show that you can still be pleasantly surprised. Strap up your boots
