Amazing Atomic Activity is the ninth album from so-called 'thrash legends' from Poland, Acid Drinkers, originally released in 1999 and now part of Metal Mind's reissue/remaster campaign. Listening to Amazing Atomic Activity, it's crystal clear that this band, who have been around since the late 80's, worshipped the Bay Area Thrash bands as well as the late 70's punk movement. Unfortunately, they came along too late to hop on either bandwagon, and this release probably sounded as dated in 1999 as it does today. Cliché ridden riffs, weak vocals too steeped in Polish accent to appeal to listeners outside of the band's native country, and songs that are just not memorable or even that heavy. As if the original tunes here aren't bad enough, Acid Drinkers even throw in a weak punk version of The Rolling Stones classic "Satisfaction", though you can give them small props at least for the energy level they deliver to the song.
The song titles & lyrics are just plain juvenile, the musicianship passable at best, and the vocals are just flat out annoying at times. Though I'm sure some might find this CD a bit on the fun side, and it's obvious the band don't take themselves too seriously, if you are into 'real heavy metal', rest assured you probably won't find that much to sink your teeth into here save for the occasional Motorhead styled romp like "Wake Up! Here Comes the Acids" or the grinding "My Pick". The rest is utterly unremarkable and unmemorable.
