Few Against Many, The: SOT
This promo, with a nice cover art, was part of the goodies received in Pulverized's latest promo package. The Few Against Many is a five piece band coming from Death Metal country, Sweden. I could only whish there would be more Death Metallers sounding like them.
SOT is not purely made of sheer brutality without any melodic lines. On the other hand, it is not turning this genre into something cheesy either. Two guitar players are making sure things are juicy and spicy, with plenty of crunchy riffs as well as some crazy solos. A top notch sound production ensures the kickingness and tight power play of those experienced musicians. Add to all this great guitar work the atmospheric /orchestral nature of the keyboards and harmonies, brought to you by producer/engineer Peel and vocalist/ guitar player Christian Alvestan (ex-Scar Symmetry), to have a better ides as to what to expect. But wait that's not all! I found SOT having a certain intricacy in its song structure and time signature. This will give the album the progressive tag on top of it. Even if a couple tracks in the middle section have a certain "déjà vu" feel, still quite a few songs are actually pretty tasty. Opener, "Hädanfärd", "Bräd Mark" and "Abider", are worth mentioning. To close off the album, the guys threw in a somewhat epic composition called "One With the Shadow".
SOT is a nice kicker that involves tightness and musical subtleties.

Few Against Many, The: SOT Posted by Pete Pardo, SoT Staff Writer on 2009-09-23 07:38:33 My Score:
Former Scar Symmetry vocalist Christian Alvestam is back, and this time he's put together the death metal band The Few Against Many, and this is their debut SOT (ironically, also the abbreviation for this website!). Though much more in a brutal death metal style than what we are used to hearing from him, SOT still has its merits. Forget Alvestam's clean vocals, this is growling all the way, as the band deliver plenty of punishment throughout this release, complimented by crushing guitar riffs, pounding drums blasts, and occasional keyboards. Many of the songs here though are sung in Swedish, so that might limit the audience somewhat, and there's a certain lack of memorable passages or vocal melodies which keeps this from being more of a statement than it probably could have been. Alvestam shows he's a capable full time growler, but I'm sure we all knew that, and the band is certainly tight and good at delivering non-stop brutality, but I'm hoping The Few Against Many vary things up a little bit next time around. There's enough little epic bits and moments of brilliance here to assume that SOT is just the beginning.
