Now that was a very sweet musical moment! Leafblade is a duo consisting of Sean Jude , actually the founder, and Anathema's Daniel Cavanagh. Sean has been playing guitar since he was a child, besides being the voice of Leafblade. Daniel takes care of the orchestration, while adding some extra guitar parts here and there.
As an acoustic guitar player myself, I could only be charmed by the music on Beyond, Beyond. Even if I would have opted for more acoustic guitar over the classical one, this nature inspired opus is simply a pleasant and relaxing musical experience. To make matters even better, lots of melodious arpeggios are scattered throughout this dreamy and eerie album. Often, the acoustic instrument is backing up in the riffing parts. Some percussion are present once and a while as well as ambiences and bass lines. The voice of Shawn fits the musical direction, and is being used as an instrument, I mean without lyrics, in a few places like on "The Whispers of Canvras Unas" and on the sadly beautiful "The Spirit of Solitude". "Spirit Child" is a great instrumental track that comes in with beautiful arpeggios. Another excellent instrumental follows on spot #7, "A Celtic Brooding in Renaissance Man", which bears very well its name. Introduced by classical guitar tones, "Beyond, Beyond" adds a darker and more powerful sound coming from the last strings (E & A), as well as more acoustic touches.
If you like dreamy and eerie music with the organic sound of acoustic instruments, Beyond, Beyond will fulfill both of those needs very nicely.
