Steve Grimmett, one time vocalist with Grim Reaper, Lionsheart and Onslaught, unleashes his new venture under the moniker Grimmstine, a collaboration with US guitarist Steve Stine and a rhythm section of bassist Hat and drummer Dave Johnson. Available in certain territories for the past few months their self-titled debut album now gets a fully fledged European release via Metal Heaven.
Grimmett's last solo release in 2007, Personal Crisis, was an introspective affair that contained some of the highlights of his career but this Anglo-American combination once again turns out to be a real winner. Grimmett's undeniable vocal presence breathes life into what could have been an ordinary bunch of songs and turns this into a prime slice of melodic metal. There is plenty of variety and old school metallers will delight in the riff heavy "Prisoner" and "Afraid of the Dark" and those with lighter tastes should check out the AOR flavoured "This Don't Look Like Love" and power ballad "You'll Never Know". Stine acquits himself well and is clearly a guitarist of some ability with some aggressive riffing and sparkling solos.
A very promising start and the good news is that a follow-up is already underway. Grimmstine are looking to book US and European shows throughout 2010 and any interested parties can contact them via the link below.
