As I stated in my review of the previously released DVD that captured Landmarq's November 2005 performance at the Wyspianski Theatre in Katowice, Poland, Britain's female-fronted neoproggers deserve at least the same amount of recognition as their peers in IQ, Jadis and Arena.
Genre geniuses Clive Nolan and Karl Groom, produced Landmarq's earlier releases, and this is the band's third live album. So why don't these three men and one woman hold greater distinction in progdom? It could be Tracy Hitchings' mighty and penetrating voice, which will jar unfamiliar listeners the first time she opens her mouth during the opening performance of "Entertaining Angels." She sings with so much emotion that her delivery sounds both divine and desperate. Despite bursting with melodies, the nine songs here are not easy to play, let alone sing. But Hitchings gives the subdued crowd its money's worth, wrapping her pipes around majestic keyboards and aggressive guitars. It's far from Nightwish and Epica territory (thank goodness), and also strays from Magenta and Renaissance.
In fact, Landmarq has sort of carved its own niche. This (or the DVD) serves as excellent introduction to a band that really should be heard by adventurous neoprog fans.
