Hailed by Nightmare Records as "Lacuna Coil meets Nevermore," the Danish/Italian collective known as Chaoswave blends aggressive, borderline-thrash metal with clean male and female vocals. But don't expect something akin to Epica or After Forever (thank goodness). Giorgia Fadda's powerful, organic vocals sound more like Evanescence's Amy Lee, and her presence can be alternately spooky and angst-filled. But let's not forget about other lead vocalist Fabio Carta, whose is given equal time on Dead Eye Dreaming and often sings in tandem with Fadda – which makes for an appealing approach to a often-tired prog-metal subgenre.
Fadda and Carta are backed by an unrelenting power trio that packages intricate melodies and contagious hooks into a brutal sound that's as heavy as, well, Nevermore. (Worth noting: Former Nevermore guitarist Steve Smyth contributes solos throughout the album.) Just push "play" on opening cut "10 Years of Denial." Or "A March for the Dying." Or "Dead Eye Dream." In fact, spin practically any song on this slab o' steel, and it's easy to envision Chaoswave rocking arenas, opening for the likes of either Dream Theater or Motley Crue. Your choice.
