"Run to the hills, run for your life" - Iron Maiden
Or… what your party guests would do if you put on Oxygen Flash by KK Null; as this disc is about as pleasant to sit through as poking at a cavity in your tooth with a toothpick. Nine tracks of what I can only describe as noise are thrown at the listener at top volume. Any sense that this disc will contain one iota of actual musicality is quickly allayed by track 2. The tracks follow each other in the same cacophonic manner until you start to feel your will to live dissipate. Mr Null, alledgedly, is an accomplished musician and the EPK drops a lot of names of people he has collaborated with in his 20 year career. Some of them are well respected musicians (John Zorn, Fred Frith…) , but I guess this disc is yet another one of those that challenges the listener to "get it" or somehow be left out in the cold.
Please pass me my jacket, scarf, and boots as I'd rather stand in subzero weather than be subjected to this maelstrom of 'unmelody'.
