Slow, crushing, droning, creepy...did I say slow? All of these words describe the monolithic sounds of Britain's Moss, purveyors of doom, sludge, and drone music sure to knock your psyche into a catatonic state or send ripples of terror up and down your spine, depending on your state of mind. Tombs of the Blind Drugged is their latest release on Rise Above Records, a short set of four songs (though I'm hesitant to even call this short as each tune is close to epic length) filled with agonized vocal wailings wafting in from the bellows of the earth, ponderous drums, and Sabbath-on qualudes guitar drones. If you can survive the pounding menace of opener "Skeletal Keys" (all 12 minutes of it), the feedback soaked title track (which has some cool atmospheric passages that are right out of a horror movie), and the enormous bass & guitar dirges on the tormented "Eternal Return", the fourth track is a cover of the Discharge classic "Maimed and Slaughtered", and a good one at that. Though this type of drone/doom might not be everyone's cup of tea, Moss are one of the better acts around delivering this stuff, so check into this if slowy, doomy dirges are for you.
