Fferyllt: Dance of Druids

FFeryllt is perhaps a bit strange for a band's name, although their music is not that bizarre, quite the contrary. The idea behind this Russian band was to promote western European Paganism; founder Dmitry Eliseev's native religion.

Don't go on thinking this is some religious propaganda that does not involve good musical elements, because you'll miss a very pleasant opus of symphonic Folk/Viking metal. Multi-instrumentalist Dmitry (keyboards, acoustic guitar, growls, drum programming & vargan) recruited five other musicians to form his band, including operatic female vocalist Yanina Zelenskaya. To add more of a folksy/symphonic edge, five additional guest musicians were called in. The instruments they cover are: gaita gallega, Scottish small pipe, flute, thin whistle, viola, harp and great highland bagpipe. The accent is more oriented towards the melodious aspect of Folk & Pagan music, with lots of harmonies mainly performed by the organic instruments. Nonetheless, some good distorted riffs, leads, growls and kicking drums keep reminding the listener that this is a metal album. Dance of Druids is a relaxing experience filled with great compositions. Just to name a few: "A Celtic Tale", "Following Skadi", "Dance of Druids", "Autumn's Gold", "Jule" and "Lai Lai Hei (Ensiferum cover).
