For their second release, the band adust has tried to prove that all the good things that I said about their debut Through Anothers Eyes makes me look like fortune teller. For all the ability that they showed on that album, these Birmingham, England metalist have turned it up a notch and provided the listening public with a disc that is an absolute face melter!
Once again they enter the realms of thrash, death metal, epic symphonic metal and this time tossing in some melodic clean vocals and biting social commentary to the mix. All of the above are highlighted in the centerpiece of this EP called "Vicious Cycle". This 8 minute opus is nothing short of a masterpiece of metal. Starting off with an acoustic guitar and keyboards, the clean vocals of Rob Pease come through with a powerful message before the dam is broken and the madness begins!
Following closely behind is the almost 9 minutes of pure sonic mayhem called "Inner Struggle". The snarling vocals of Rob Pease and the dynamic guitar duo of Dave Cox and Guy Jones provide a jolt to the system that will make you think that you have just been tasered! The brief clean vocal melodic interlude is truly just the lull before the storm. These guys bring it hard, fast and loud with the best of them and you better hold on tight for the ride.
It is the musical interludes on this disc that shows the maturity that the band has achieved. It is also an example of how the band can traverse through many a genre and do so with a swagger that is reserved for those who are true masters of their craft. Few bands can grab a hold of you like adust. They are a band on the rise and the wave is turning into a tsunami. I guess Glasstone Records agree with me, the band was recently signed to the label and you can expect to see and hear more of them. Believe me, this is a good thing!
