iM.G.R. y Destructo Swarmbots! : Amigos de la Guitarra

iM.G.R. y Destructo Swarmbots! is the band's actual name. It's made up of the duo of Mike Mare (Destructo Swarmbots) and Mike Gallagher ( MGR/Isis); both guitarists. Amigos de la Guitarra is made up of one long song, clocking in at a little over 42-minutes long.

I'll spare the squeamish the alledged story of their meeting in a gay bar called "The Toolbox", where "Gallagher's rakish grin and platinum-plated construction helmet caught Mare's ever-discerning eye. Gallagher was similarly impressed with Mare's state-of-the-art hairdo and glistening pecs", because, that's their own business (not that there's anything wrong with that!). Instead I'll dissect this disc song-by-song for you. "Amor en el Aire" (Love Is In The Air? I don't habla Espagnol but I think that's what it means), is, as stated above, a very long song. It moves at a snail's pace for the most part, creating an ominous tension, as the same chord gets repeated over and over again, with slight variances, very much in a drone rock sort of way, but far less annoying than a lot of stuff that genre has to offer. The continuous repetition builds in intensity until we reach a point in the track where the chords get heavier , more distorted, and louder. This leads us (about halfway through the song) into a dark, almost psychedelic bad trip section, complete with feedbacks and otherwordly guitar intonations. We're kept in this sort of musical purgatory for about 8 minutes, before we reemerge into a lighter musical realm, which gives the listener the impression that a huge weight has been lifted from his shoulders. Soft acoustic notes start to wash over us, again at a very deliberate pace, and lead us into the last section of the song. These notes slowly start building in intensity, not unlike the opening segments of the track, until it softens into silence.

Thus we emerge from a decent musical journey. Nothing exceptional about this track, but still a very pleasant aural experience. This one has grown on me with repeated listens, as some of its nuances have come to the forefront.
