First off, this band simply fuckin' Crushes! Metal Mind Productions has re-released the killer 2003 CD Zero Order from Portuguese Industrial Metal outfit once known as Re:Aktor and now more simply known as Reaktor. This record has everything a Metal fan could ever ask for, heavy slamming riffing, powerful crush your skull rhythm's, and even hooky, get stuck in your head choruses. Part Fear Factory, part Misery Loves Co., part Ministry, part Pantera = Instant headbanging! This is an instant modern Metal classic.
Reaktor is a band that I had never heard of before and their road as a band has been a bumpy one, at best. Band members coming and going and then coming back again, tours canceled, but nonetheless, Zero Order is a CD that NEEDS to be heard. Mastered by the famous George Marino (Ozzy, Led Zep, Metallica, Coldplay), Zero Hour is a slick sounding record that encompasses the heaviness and the mechanical power that is Industrial Metal. Zero Order has that futuristic theme and sound to it that makes it sound as if the apocalypse is coming. Fans of the Terminator movies will enjoy this trip. These guys are the real deal.
This debut re-release features 11 tracks that quite simply do not disappoint. Reaktor members, Nexion (guitar, bass, sampling and programming), D-Void (guitar, bass), Ca-2 (drums) and R.A.D. (vocals) made a great record with Zero Order and it is a great example of what aggressive computer generated Metal can sound like. From the opening mechanical drones of CD opener, "Zero Order", the stage is set for a futuristic landscape of iron and steel bending and breaking. Songs like "Stellarator", "Sektor X-Lr8", and "Datascape Assembler" on title alone sound cool and the actual songs themselves are equally as great. "Stellarator" has that instant Ministry pounding beat that you can not help but bang that head to. And check out the really cool production that makes your head feel like it's spinning with sounds and tweaks passing from ear to ear like a space ship! "Sektor X-Lr8" has a great almost Static X vibe at the very beginning before the full on attack this is Reaktor kicks in. Did I mention how awesome these guys are? And "Datascape" has a Demanufacture era Fear Factory intro. The thing is that Reaktor NEVER actually sounds like any of the bands that I use as a reference. They capture the the band's vibe but never sound like those bands, which is great. They borrow but never steal.
For a Portuguese band, Reaktor sounds very much like an American or Scandinavian band. I was expecting something very much more like Overdose or Sepultura, something very drum driven or ethnic, but instead they are very modern sounding and are very much still a band now even with all of member changes and with their powerful Industrial songwriting with accessible catchy grooves, they should be around for quite a while. Reaktor is an Industrial Metal band that should find a home with ALL modern Metal fans, if they can hear it. They are THAT good. The mixture of their raw guitar tones and the excellent use of computer electronic cybernetics' is quite simply brilliant. Reaktor are fantastic, find this record and you won't be disappointed. I LOVE this record!
