"I want to see a Skatchbox in every American home!" – Thomas Skatchit
So says the liner notes to Tom Nunn's debut effort entitled T.D. Skatchit & Company. The Skatchbox is a musical invention by Thomas Skatchit (aka Tom Nunn?) that is built from cardboard boxes and played with, wait for it…combs. Apparently sweeping the comb across the box can create sounds that resemble wind, frogs croaking and birds singing among other things. The liner notes also proclaim that T.D. Skatchit, which also consists of fellow Skatchbox-er David Michalak, is a hit on the carnival and sideshow circuit. Well I can tell you that after listening to this excruciatingly long fourteen song (?) disc, I'd rather waste my time trying to guess the fat lady's weight or gaze for hours at an endless parade of circus freaks than be subjected to this drivel because the best this can do is at times come off like an annoying collection of leftover sound effects from a Star Wars movie. How you can pass this off as music is beyond me, and as far as that quote is concerned, umm….yeah good luck with that.
