Finland's Scarecrow self describes themselves as, "Fucking raw, horror, Punk Rock shit", which ultimately equals 12 speed packed tunes on their The Terror CD (Dead Club Records). Full of Hardcore angst and Metal sensibilities, Scarecrow at times sounds like a dash of classic Slayer with their harmonized guitar riffing combined with Agnostic Front. This CD is loud, raw and completely in your face.
The Terror is filled with gravely shouted vocals, dirty power chording and just pure flat out speed. What makes Scarecrow a little different than most Punk/Hardcore bands is that they effectively use some hooky choruses that actually work with sticking in your head, while never slowing down their all senses assault. And with no song clocking in at over 3:30 minutes, Scarecrow just plow through their songs in a very no frills way. Scarecrow incorporates fist pumping chants in "Hanging Dead Bodies", that aforementioned get stuck in your head chorus of "London After Midnight" and the go for the throat attitude that is "I'm Not Ready To Die", that they all just pound straight through. Then checkout "Zombies" for some Punk Rock bashed out at supersonic speeds. It's like the Misfit's on speed!
Mix in all of the ferocity of the Punk/Hardcore angles and then toss in Scarecrow's horror slant of all things dead, dying, going to hell or that are zombies and you get that self described, "Fucking raw, horror, Punk Rock shit". Scarecrow have fun with their tongue in cheek lyrics of the horror imagery and couple that with some ragingly anger filled moments of power riffing and that makes The Terror a pretty fun listen, all and all. I'm not a big fan of the Punk Rock/Hardcore scene and I enjoyed this CD myself.
