Melodic power metal is a genre I for one thoroughly enjoy, so I jump at the chance to hear a new band, such as Edgend, a stirring metal band from Israel and their energizing debut A New Identity.
"The name 'EDGEND' is a combination between the words Edge End meaning the sharpest point of the blade." well, just like a warriors blade, this band is sharp. The orchestral and dramatic tones of "Into The Equation - A Mask Without Identity" bring A New Identity to life, and then we are presented with more powerful music on "Internal Fire". The wonderful Symphony X was the first band I thought of upon hearing Edgend, which surely is a band that has inspired many. "Iternal Fire" has that heavy Symphony X progressive style vibe about it, dare I say too much at times, the vocals have a Russell Allen meets Ian Parry feel to them. If you are fond of music with an abundant serving of keyboards then tracks like the prompt "My Oath" will no doubt interest you. Actually all of Edgend's music is very appealing with some great keyboard/guitar solos, such as on track seven "The Pain", and "Winds Of The Abyss" is a very exciting instrumental for the progressive metal fans.
I enjoyed what A New Identity had to offer, hence my rating, and ultimately Edgend's CD is well worth your contemplation. But A New Identity is quite the interesting title for this band's debut, as I feel Edgend need to perhaps cut back a tad on the influences, and show us more of their own 'Identity' on future releases.
