Ingested: Surpassing The Boundaries of Human Suffering

Ingested are definitely out to make their mark in the extreme metal genre on their debut full length effort for Candlelight Records entitled Surpassing The Boundaries of Human Suffering.

Formed in the U.K. in 2007 this young quintet has already managed to draw quite a bit of attention throughout the underground scene on the other side of the pond. One thing is for sure, if you consider yourself a fan of extreme metal then you'll definitely have something to dig your teeth into here because Surpassing The Boundaries of Human Suffering contains a shade over thirty minutes of some seriously sick and brutal sounding death metal.

Tracks such as "Skinned and Fucked", "Contorted Perception" and "Stillborn" are all executed with razor sharp precision and feature plenty of thick and sludgy drop tuned guitar work. Vocalist Jason Evans also does a great job with his mix of harsh screams and guttural growls; but what really stands out as you listen to this collection of skull crushing carnage is just how tight these guys sound as a unit. For a band that has only been together for a few years they certainly appear to have their act together. Lyrically...well a quick perusal of some of the other song titles should give you a pretty good idea of what you're in for. You don't have to be a scientist to figure out that "Intercranial Semen Injection ", "Condemned to Rape" and "Anal Evisceration" are probably going to contain some pretty violent and twisted shit.

As promising as this debut effort is though, there is definitely room for improvement in some major areas, mostly with regards to the overall production and sound of the instruments. The first thing that needs fixing are the drums because on each and every one of these tracks the drums sound ridiculously 'triggered' to the max; so much so that it ends up sucking the very lifeblood right out of the instrument. It just sounds way too mechanical. The guitars also end up being a bit of a problem at times as well. For some strange reason they end up taking a back seat in the mix to the drums. I think if they lose the triggered drums and beefed up the dual guitars for the next album then the results should speak for themselves.

All in all Surpassing The Boundaries of Human Suffering is a pretty solid opening statement. If you like extreme death metal then you'll probably want to check out what Ingested have to offer. Just be forewarned that these guys are not quite there yet and this is still very much a work in progress.
