Judas Syndrome, The: demo

Hailing from New York City, The Judas Syndrome unleash their brand of thrash & hardcore on this 2 song sampler in anticipation of their full length debut. Though it's often hard to judge a band when given something so brief as a 7-minute sampler, I had the opportunity to see The Judas Syndrome open up for Nile recently as well as speak to the band after their set, so I've been able to dig a little deeper into their music beyond these two solid tracks. While speaking to Chris from The Judas Syndrome, he mentioned that some folks have said that they are 'too metal for the hardcore scene' and 'too hardcore for the metal scene'. Well, that kind of explains their music pretty accurately. "13th Star" mixes furious thrash riffs & harmonies over sledgehammer rhythms and angry barking vocals, while "Death of the Soul" again sees those thrash riffs boiling and churning (you'll hear a definite Testament influence in the guitar department) with a wide assortment of growls, barks, and screams in the vocal department. Throw in some customary crushing breakdowns and you've got the making of a familiar formula, but a pretty successful one. Kudos to the band for making these tunes somewhat catchy despite their brutal nature, and the melodic harmony guitar work is a great touch.

If you dig extreme music that blends the intricate nature of thrash metal with the angst of hardcore, chances are you'll like what you hear from The Judas Syndrome. Take a peek over at their MySpace page and see what they are all about.
