Evolution 5.0 was a highlight of 2007, and still is such a wonderful selection of quality metal. I never hesitate when Thunderstone have a new CD out, the band being an infectious power metal act that are showing us that characteristic yet again on release number five, the ballsy Dirt Metal.
While the title of this CD is kind of strange, the music it contains isn't, Thunderstone's modern metal music is both powerful and melodic, and Dirt Metal is an easy CD to get into with plenty of hooks.
New vocalist Rick Altzi fills the role with ease, as his powerful voice is heard on Dirt Metal's first blaster "I Almighty". Rick does his part in making Dirt Metal a fine metal release, and the cracking "Star" allows Rick to unleash his anger. Thunderstone really rip it up on numbers like the double kick fest "Dodge The Bullet", but then again these guys are no amateurs. The music on Dirt Metal has quite a metallic groove present, like on the super cool "I Almighty" and "At The Feet Of Fools"- I really liked the guitar and keys on the latter track.
It's just a shame many great bands like Thunderstone don't get more publicity, as Dirt Metal slid under the radar for a while until I came across it being mentioned on a music forum. Many metal fans may miss out on some great music, so don't be one of them. I am glad I didn't.
