Aldaaron are a Black Metal outfit hailing from the mountainous region of Grenoble in southern France. Formed back in 2004 this French quartet unleashes a storm of cold, grim BM malice on their debut effort entitled Nous Reviendrons Immortels released by Paragon Records.
Armed with a full on arsenal of blazing, tremolo picked riffing with a generally thin sounding guitar tone, and the harsh, raspy sounding vocals applied on "Neiges Sépulcrales", "Seigneur de l'hiver" and "Royaume", the band does a fantastic overall job of putting across a listening experience that combines a brutally savage attack with desolate sounding atmospherics. What is somewhat surprising and somewhat refreshing as well is that these guys offer up more than just the corpse paint visage and your typical BM posturing, as evidenced by the versatile two part "Nirnaeth Arnoediad" composition. If you listen carefully you can detect a distinct Celtic tinged melody running through portions of the guitar work as this song transforms itself a multitude of times over the course of almost twelve and half minutes. There are some absolutely vicious and captivating riffs employed throughout the aforementioned "Royaume" and "En route vers la bataille" that is sure to put a shit eating grin a mile wide on the face of your average BM fan.
Nous Reviendrons Immortels is an extremely impressive debut offering from these relative newcomers. If you like Black Metal that features well crafted songs that place an added emphasis on gloriously heavy, epic melodies and frosted atmospherics, then you're going to need to hunt down a copy of this disc and check out what Aldaaron are all about.
