Ereb Altor is the Swedish duo of Ragnar(Daniel Bryntse), and Mats(Crister Olsson) performing epic Viking doom metal, and both are also members of the doom metal band Isole. Ereb Altor allows the two musicians an outlet to explore and record other material to that which Isole performs, and now they are releasing The End, Ereb Altor's second CD after 2008's debut By Honour.
This slow brooding album commences with the powerful and epic feel of "The Entering (Myrding Prologue)", as both clean and dark vocals emerge, and as to be expected there is no frantic drumming on The End just slow potent strokes and gigantic riffs. "Myrding", "Our Failure" and "A New But Past Day" are three quality captivating songs, and overall the fine vocals on The End are very well complemented with sweeping instrumental passages.
"Balder`s Fall (The End part I)", "Vargavinter (The End part II)", and "The Final War (The End part III)" is the three part tale that concludes this CD, and each begins with a gentle acoustic guitar, to be replaced shortly after with Ereb Altor's quality epic doom metal. As the title might be implying, maybe this could be the last Ereb Altor release? Perhaps so, but the engaging songs on The End certainly warrant future recordings.
