Armored Saint started back in the early eighties, the band parted ways as singer John Bush joined Anthrax. They then got back together for another period and in 2000 Armored Saint released Revelation, now they have returned once again with a new album. Besides John Bush, another well known member of Armored Saint is bass player Joey Vera, who has played with many bands including Fates Warning, Anthrax, OSI and Chroma Key.
La Raza is the title of this new Armored Saint release, and here the Los Angeles based heavy metal band have recorded an album of variety with many catchy metal/hard rock tunes. If anything though I was probably expecting this album to be more metal orientated overall than it is. La Raza does tend more towards the heavier side of hard rock edging into metal's territory at times. The voice of John Bush is both powerful and appealing, and the songs range from the straightforward power track "Loose Cannon" to rocking groovers like "Chilled". Armored Saint's music features rock solid performances from a band that despite on/off again times has come back strongly.
The long wait for new material is over for the Armored Saint fans, maybe this time things might work out for the better, allowing the band to stay together and produce more regular releases, though I suppose that will depend on what happens if John Bush joins up with Anthrax again.
