Spanish gore-grinders Haemorrhage seemed to have come of age by 2006 and their fifth effort Apology for Pathology, now being reissued by Relapse Records. Though there's still plenty of maniacal speed-fests here, the band tones it down a tad for some even groovier and chunkier material. The vocals of Lugubrious have even taken on somewhat of black metal raspiness in spots, especially on "Disgoring Innards", and he mixes those with the more guttural croak that he is known for. The song structures here are more complex than in the past, as the band seems more mature by this point and have seen the spark at the end of their tunnel of madness. Guitar solos and frenzied, twisted riffing abound, as well as plenty of jackhammer blasting, although if I can give one criticism here, the production of the drums is somewhat off, as they sound like garbage cans in spots.
How can you go wrong with song titles like "Feasting On Purulence", "Frenzied Genital Carbonization", and "Excruciating Denervation Of The Lumbar Spine", right? Well, all you Carcass lovers who somehow missed out on this band the first time around, now have Relapse to thank for reissuing some of the Haemorrhage albums so you can check them out and see what you've been missing.
