Hailing from Providence, Rhode Island, Stoner Rock band Megasus have released a powerfully loud and self titled record featuring 7 sludgy tunes. The history of this band seems to be centered around the 4 members of the band working for the video game developer, Harmonix, who happens to be behind the game Guitar Hero! And these 4 guys decided to form a band & even cleverly stick a "hidden track" into both "Rock Band" and "Guitar Hero 2". Now the question is, "Are these songs worth even finding in Guitar Hero or not"?
Long on bombastic noise and short on good or even catchy songs, Megasus are quite simply boring. The 7 songs on this CD easily become background fodder from the terrible, low end heavy production to the caterwauling vocals, Megasus just doesn't get it right. The obvious idea here was to throw as many heavy, plodding riffs at the listener as possible without much thought of a song, so for that, they have nailed it, but this is almost painful to try and get through. They are part Sex Pistols, part Kyuss and part just not good. Songs like "Megasus" and "Swords" do seem to be more for fun than anything else, but even so they are not fun to listen to.
This record is not one that you would find yourself listening to again and again. To be honest, if you can make it through the wall of distortion, low end sludge and vocals that are never quite loud enough to actually make out what is being said, I doubt that you will find yourself pulling this out to give it a spin in the near future, if at all. This is a Stoner Rock effort to be passed over for sure. The guitar riffs are boring, the songs are boring and the vocals are annoying making "Noise Rock" a better moniker to use for Megasus and this is not a CD that I could actually recommend. These guys are lucky that they work for the people responsible for Guitar Hero and were able to sneak their songs, "Red Lottery" and "Megasus" into these games, as they will need every bit of exposure and help. Megasus' songs just drag on, even within the normal Stoner Rock world. I found this very painful.
