Hackett, Steve: Hungarian Horizon's-Live in Budapest DVD

" …Hackett is a legend whose reputation rests on sheer talent, sensitive playing, and an ability to challenge and intrigue his audience. "

--- Music Video Distributors---

This man needs no introductions so let's dive right in . Mr Hackett (guitar) is joined on stage by his brother John ( flute) and Roger King ( keyboards) in an acoustic set featuring Hackett favorites , both as a solo artist and with 'his first band'; as well as classical and symphonic numbers. 38 tracks are offered up on a DVD which runs 104 min. All the tracks are soft melodic numbers, which accentuate Steve's penchant for great arrangements and melodies; and John's exquisite flute mastery. Die hard fans will find plenty to get excited about despite the laid back approach of the material. Steve gives a veritable acoustic guitar clinic from start to finish. The uninitiated viewer may find the DVD a little on the lengthy side. This is often the type of music to be played while engaged in other relaxing activities. To sit and watch 104 min of soft, celestial music such as this can be a daunting task.

From a technical point of view, the DVD is flawless, with superb camera shots and close ups in all the appropriate moments. The sound is immaculate with a choice of Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1; which really engulfs the listener in a christening musical shawl.

The bonus material is called ' A Weekend in Budapest' , where Steve and Co. sit down for an interview immediately following the show. An honest, forthright, and at times funny Steve speaks of the show and the audience's reactions. Interspersed with the interview is bonus material filmed during the band's sound check.

Fans of acoustic symphonic music where guitar and flute are at the forefront rejoice: Mr Hackett's new DVD is just the elixir you've been waiting for. Fans of Steve's electric work may want to spend their money on one of the other DVD's this progressive legend has released in the last couple of years.
