Face Value: Rode Hard, Put Away Wet Clevo HC '89-'93

They are supposed to be one of Cleveland's premier hardcore acts but as they may be decent, it is hard to believe that this is the cream of the crop. With a terrific guitarist by the name of Anthony Brown and little else to set them apart, this CD/DVD collection pretty much sums up the career of a band that for years showed promise but never moved beyond the point from which they started.

The 31 cuts on the audio portion of this set are interchangeable for the most part with a few exceptions. When Mr. Brown lets loose with his Les Paul it is the saving grace for this band. He can change it up and keep it interesting but seems to have to resort to a more simplistic style so the rest of the band can keep pace. At times they seem lost when he veers off in a different direction as on one of the best cuts "My Brother's Keeper". Other than that, this is a hardcore/punk lover's dream disc. Most are songs that follow so close to the one before it that you will hardly notice when it changes.

They do manage to give you just enough variation to keep you from hitting the stop button but believe me when I tell you it was a challenge to make it through the whole disc in one sitting.

As far as the DVD goes, it is something that you might view in it's entirety but I doubt it. These are fan videos with the sound quality to match. Shot in places like the VFW Post in Rapid City, SD and the Foreign Legion Hall in DeKalb IL, you can find many of them and a lot of others of just as good on You Tube.

I found it interesting to listen to the guitar work and his attempt to make a difference throughout this album but other than that, this one left me flat and became quite boring.
