Die, Alio/Parallel Worlds: Circo Divino
Under the guise of Alio Die, Stefano Musso has been recording since the late 80s. His music is a combination of ambient electronic and acoustic sounds. Parallel Worlds is sound designer Bakis Sirros who uses analogue modulators and analogue step sequencers to generate his electronic soundscapes. The two musicians have united to produce their latest effort Circo Divino.
While I appreciate the artist's effort put forth on Circo Divino, the music produced is not enough to really grab my attention. The tension does build in some songs but the release is not as intense as I would have preferred. While I do appreciate some of these tunes like the darker sounding "Sorinel" with its low rumbling electronic soundscape and waves of sound mimicking working machinery and the hint of ethnic sounds on the other worldly "Lost Fractales", I found myself easily distracted while listening and the album lost it's momentum. Perhaps the songs are a tad too long with five songs over eight minutes in length.
Do not get me wrong, most of these songs have some intriguing moments like dark and dreamy soundscapes, sweeping electronics and some interesting percussion. It just was not enough to make the album work as a whole over the course of fifty-plus minutes. Of course, if you are attracted to the more peaceful confines of ambient music you probably need to listen to Circo Divino and come to your own conclusion.
