An Autumn for Crippled Children: Lost

Not a pretty name for a band and the picture on the cover art is not a pretty sight either. I guess it's part of the concept since this is no pretty music here.

An Autumn for Crippled Children is playing a noisy & messy type of black metal. The production is actually good though. The guys are just playing too loud I believe, thus burying the atmosphere. The fastest parts are often resorted to, and this is where things get worst, since they are muddy and cacophonic. Even the discrete rasps are forced & screamed, while trying to make its way through this massive and powerful wall of sound. You can feel a tendency for melancholy and a depressive mood is present amongst this intense recording. The more harmonious elements are being carried out by the delicate & shy arpeggios, as well as some scarce keyboards. "An Autumn for Cripple Children" (the song) is one of the better compositions on this album. It is an instrumental with melody and varied paces. The same goes for track #8, "Gaping Void of Silence"; another highlight on this disc. All in all, Lostis not really a terrible album as such. If they could try not to bury their music under noise, mud and those cacophonic tones, then their desperate compositions would fare much better.
